The Germans are coming, The Germans are coming.........

So many of you know I am a commissioner for Schaumburg Sister Cities. Well today we have 15 Germans who will be arriving and staying here, in Shaumburg, for 2 weeks with host families. It is an awesome experience, a lot of fun to set up, and well worth the relationships you are paid with in return. Tonight, after we pick them up from the airport, we have a welcome reception so they can meet their host families and eat a bit after the long flight. Our days are packed with actitivites for them incuding tours of the Schaumburg fire stations, police station, library, airport, Flyers Stadium, Motorola Museum, our schools, a beer tasting, a potluck dinner, and a fundraiser to meet them, etc. They have free time and family time on weekends and a few of the days so they can go into the city and other burbs. Host families include teachers, policemen, firemen, and anyone who is interested in hosting. It's a phenominal group of peeps.

Schaumburg has 2 Sister Cities, Schaumburg Germany and Namerikawa Japan. Chicago has 28!

Our next exchange will be in April, we will be making a trip over there, to Germany. It is a great way to meet new people and learn about a different culture. For me, it is a little piece of my heritage and a way to stay connected with my fathers homeland.

For anyone who would like to meet any of our 15 visitors to chat and ask about Germany, we are having a fundraiser at Chandlers in Schaumburg. We do fundraisers to help build our funds for the costs expended during exchanges here.

I can't wait to meet our new group of friends....o.k., and I can't wait for the beer tasting! LOL
